1. Initial Assessment:

Personal and Health Background: You’ll likely be asked about your current weight, height, body composition, and any health issues (like diabetes, thyroid conditions, or other medical concerns). This helps to ensure your weight loss plan is safe for you.

Lifestyle and Habits: A discussion of your current lifestyle is key. This includes questions about:

Diet: What do you typically eat each day (meal times, food choices, portion sizes)?
Exercise: How often do you exercise, and what types of activities do you do?
Sleep: How well and how much do you sleep each night?
Stress: Do you experience high levels of stress, and how does it affect your eating or lifestyle?

2. Goal Setting:

The consultant will help you define your weight loss goals. This might include a target weight, but also other goals like improving fitness, boosting energy levels, or reducing specific health risks.

Goals should be specific, measurable, and realistic. For example, instead of a vague goal like “I want to lose weight,” a more specific goal would be “I want to lose 10 pounds in 2 months and increase my daily step count to 10,000 steps.”

3. Creating a Personalized Plan:

Based on the information you provide, the consultant will develop a tailored plan. This can include:

Dietary Plan: A meal plan that aligns with your weight loss goals, such as:

Caloric Intake:The consultant will suggest a healthy calorie target based on your age, activity level, and weight loss goals.

Nutrient Balance: They'll ensure you get the right amount of protein, fat, and carbohydrates to promote fat loss while maintaining muscle mass and overall health.

Food Choices: Recommendations on which foods to include (e.g., whole grains, lean proteins, fruits, and vegetables) and which to limit (e.g., processed foods, sugary snacks).

Exercise Plan: If you’re not already exercising or need more structure, the consultant may offer:

a.)  A workout routine that includes both cardio (to burn calories) and strength training (to build muscle and boost metabolism).

b.)  A gradual increase in physical activity, like adding more walking to your day or strength training 2-3 times a week.

Lifestyle Changes: Suggestions for improving sleep hygiene, managing stress, and other lifestyle factors that can impact weight loss.

4. Behavioral Strategies and Support:

The consultant may introduce mindful eating strategies or behavioral techniques to help you stay on track and avoid emotional eating, which can be a big obstacle to weight loss.

Accountability: Regular check-ins, either through follow-up consultations or check-ins via an app, can help keep you motivated and make adjustments to your plan if needed.

5. Education

During the consultation, the consultant might educate you on topics like:

How to read food labels to make healthier choices.

The importance of hydration, sleep, and stress management in weight loss.

Understanding metabolism and why some diets work better than others based on individual differences.

6. Regular Follow-up:

After the consultation, many weight loss professionals offer follow-up sessions to track your progress, make necessary adjustments, and provide ongoing motivation. These follow-ups can be scheduled weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly, depending on your needs.

Weight Loss FAQ's

Our medical weight loss program is best suited for people looking to lose at least 15 lbs. The Golden Wellness program is designed to help you lose weight under the supervision of a doctor.

We are committed to helping you maintain a healthy lifestyle and weight. Our program consists of a series of visits that focus on helping you overcome dietary, physical, and emotional barriers to successful weight loss. In each visit, you’ll meet with a physician and either a health coach, dietician, or fitness specialist.
Results vary, but by focussing on sustainable weight loss through a healthy lifestyle, most people should expect to lose 5 to 10% of their current weight. Many will lose more. Based on your Body Composition Test, (see Program Basics) we can accurately determine the amount of fat mass it would be healthy for you to lose.
Many dietary approaches are reviewed as part of our program. Our dieticians focus on creating a diet that is right for you and maintainable over time. People often lose weight with fad diets, but rarely keep the weight off. We use OPTIFAST® products for patients who qualify for a low-calorie diet and chose that option. Meeting personally with our physicians and dieticians is essential to discovering what will be most applicable to you.
There are several medications approved by the FDA for the treatment of obesity. As part of our program, we will review if any of these options are appropriate for you. However, our philosophy is that there is no “magic pill” for weight loss and the focus should always be on lifestyle changes that are sustainable over time.
Insurance coverage for obesity varies by carrier. Always verify with your insurance what they do and do not cover. We will bill your visits as regular office visits and expect that the majority will be paid with no problem.
Successful weight loss typically involves a team approach. We can send your doctor updates on how you are doing with each visit and may ask them to help with managing chronic conditions that affect your weight and overall fitness.
